Global Marine's 100-day Canyon
Offshore charter

Chelmsford, UK: Canyon Offshore, part of the Helix Energy Solutions Group, has selected Global Marine Systems Limited (Global Marine), the independent market-leading subsea cable installation and maintenance company for a ground-breaking charter to Papua New Guinea.

Global Marine has assigned the 10,105 tonne Wave Mercury, captained by Commander Kevin Widdowson, to steam from Singapore to an area off the coast of Papua New Guinea. Global Marine has proven experience of delivering survey charters to the oil and gas markets in the region and is operating in this area for the first time.

“Global Marine is delighted to be working with Canyon Offshore on this landmark project in Papua New Guinea,” said Gabriel Ruhan, Global Marine’s CEO.  “As we continue to expand our business into multiple sectors, our work with Canyon Offshore is proving to be an excellent match for the unique skills, vessels and equipment Global Marine brings to a project. It marks another step forward in our diversification into new markets and we are confident that its success will serve as a benchmark for the rest of the industry.”

Scott Sparks, Vice President of Trenching Services for Canyon said, “The CS Wave Mercury will be an ideal platform to support this operation.  The vessel has two ST200 ROVs on board which have been modified for surveying. The 38-man Global Marine crew and 29 representatives will be at sea for 100-days, and are pleased to be in position to extend this charter if necessary. We chose Global Marine as a partner on this project because of the unrivalled experience of their fleet.”

“We are home to an array of world-class marine engineering personnel, vehicles and equipment,” agrees Pete Howson, Global Marine Subsea Sales Services Manager. “This vessel charter is another area where Global Marine is diversifying in the Marine industry to support other opportunities with our assets and personnel.”
